About This Track

Khalid wrote 'My Bad' in less than ten minutes, freestyling over a beat by D Mile. The song functions as an apology for not replying to messages, a small domestic friction point that Khalid transforms into something lighter and more playful than the premise might suggest. The track sits at the centre of the album's pop sensibility, built on a repeating chorus that emphasises the casual nature of the transgression: a phone on silent, work getting in the way, the mutual understanding that neither party is truly wronged. The song moves between acknowledgement and deflection. Khalid admits the oversight but frames it as a shared experience, something both parties care about but not enough to let it damage what they have. The lyrics circle around the same idea, missed calls, mixed signals, the gap between intention and action, without ever letting the mood darken. It is a track about small apologies and the relief of moving past them.

"My Bad" is a single by Khalid, from the album Free Spirit, released 4th April 2019. The track is 2:44 long. It's filed under R&B/Soul. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 3 articles about Khalid.

Lyrics

My Bad

Can't count up the times you've blown my line
And that's been on my mind a lot lately
I wanna leave the extra all behind, mmm
And I know that you wanna be my baby, mmm yeah

Said, my bad
Blowin' me up, we been wilin'
We was cool, yeah, we was vibin'
Gotta put my phone on silent
So my, my, my, my bad
Blowin' me up, we been wilin'
We were cool, yeah, we was vibin'
Gotta put my phone on silent
So my, my, my bad

Oh, we both care about it
But arguing with me just isn't worth it
No, no, no
Don't go reachin' in your bag, your bag, yeah
I didn't text you back 'cause I was workin'
Ah, yeah

Said, my bad
Blowin' me up, we been wilin'
We was cool, yeah, we was vibin'
Gotta put my phone on silent
So my, my, my, my bad
Blowin' me up, we been wilin'
We were cool, yeah, we was vibin'
Gotta put my phone on silent
So my, my, my bad

Gave you all the signs
Gave you all of my time, my love
You're followin' the signs
But you're followin' the wrong signs, my love
Gave you all the signs
Gave you all of my time, my love
(Gave you all my time and all my love)
You're followin' the signs
But you're followin' the wrong signs, my love

Said, my bad
Blowin' me up, we been wilin'
We was cool, yeah, we was vibin' (Vibin')
Gotta put my phone on silent (On silent)
So my, my, my, my bad (My bad)
Blowin' me up, we been wilin' (Blowin' me up)
We were cool, yeah, we was vibin'
Gotta put my phone on silent
So my, my, my bad

Oh my, my, my
Oh my, my, my
My bad, my bad
Alright
