About This Track

'Winter' finds Khalid nursing the aftermath of a relationship that has run its course. He traces the emotional arc from infatuation to abandonment, anchoring the song in El Paso whilst the seasons turn cold around him. The lyrics move between past and present tense, collapsing the distance between the moment he fell and the moment she left, between promises made and promises broken. The track uses seasonal shift as emotional shorthand. November arrives, love hardens, and what felt warm in the morning becomes unbearable by nightfall. Khalid's voice carries the weight of unrequited feeling, the gap between what he gave and what was returned. The chorus circles back to a single plea: that she might hold onto what he offered, even as he accepts the relationship's end. It is a song about the particular loneliness of loving someone who does not love you back, set against the indifference of a city and a season turning colder.
