About This Track

Miguel frames desire as an oceanic pull, the song built around a none-too-subtle metaphor that equates physical intimacy with the rhythm and crash of waves. He croons about riding that wave all night, the repetition turning the image into something hypnotic and insistent, a deliriously uplifting jam that channels sensual abandon without apology. The track sits on a bed of rolling production that mirrors its central conceit, each verse layering Miguel's voice with calls to keep working it, to stay in motion. There's a playfulness here alongside the explicit intent, the song never quite taking itself too seriously even as it commits fully to its premise. Body surf, don't sleep becomes both instruction and invitation, a posture of relentless appetite.

"waves" is a track by Miguel, from the album Wildheart, released 25th June 2015. The track is 3:22 long. It's filed under R&B/Soul. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 1 article about Miguel.

Lyrics

waves

Uh, set it up, keep rollin', rollin', drop it
Baby, drop it like it's stolen, stolen, and I
Yeah, I wanna
I wanna ride that wave, oh, baby, ha, yeah
Body built for the beach, do you got that ocean?
Body surf, don't sleep, body surf on me
Don't stop (don't stop)
I wanna ride that wave (wanna ride that wave, ha, yeah, baby)
All night (all night)
I'm gonna ride that wave (I'm gonna ride that wave)
Look here, I'm gon' surf in it, baby
Get turnt in it, baby, put work in it, baby
Keep working it while I ride that wave
Put it out, I'm on fire, fire
That's what I'm about, take me higher, higher, tonight
I'm gonna ride that wave, uh-huh
You got a body built for the beach
Do you got that ocean?
Body surf, don't sleep, body surf on me, woman
Don't stop (don't stop, oh, baby)
I wanna ride that wave (gonna ride that wave, yeah, baby, now)
All night (said, all night)
I'm gonna ride that wave (I'm gonna ride that wave)
Look here, I'm gon' surf in it, baby
Get turnt in it, baby, put work in it, baby
Keep working it while I ride that wave
Bet you turn up when I pipe down
I'ma get it 'til I wipe out
Bully that thing, baby, lights out
I'm gonna ride that wave
Let it crash down on me
Let it splash down on me
Body surf, don't sleep, until I hit the peak, oh
Yeah, get wild, baby, so hot, God damn, I need a towel baby
I could wipe you down right now, baby
I could ride that wave right now, baby (give it me, yeah)
Yeah, get wild, baby, so hot, God damn, I need a towel, baby (God Damn)
I could wipe you down right now, baby (right now)
Let me ride that wave right now, baby
Look here, I'm gon' surf in it, baby
Get turnt in it, baby, put work in it, baby
Keep working it, baby
Don't stop (don't you stop, no, no)
I wanna ride that wave (wanna ride that, yeah, yeah, yeah, and it don't)
All night (uh-huh)
I'm gonna ride that wave (I'm gonna ride that wave, now)
Look here, I'm gon' surf in it, baby
Get turnt in it, baby, put work in it, baby
Keep working it while I ride that wave
Yeah, get wild, baby, so hot, God damn, I need a towel, baby (God damn)
I could wipe you down right now, baby (right now)
I could ride that wave right now, baby (oh)
Yeah, get wild, baby, so hot, God damn, I need a towel, baby (all night)
I could wipe you down right now, baby (right now)
Let me ride that wave right now, baby (give it to me, yeah)
