The tenth track from Paramore's third album 'Brand New Eyes', 'Misguided Ghosts' finds Hayley Williams navigating the disorientation of early adulthood with characteristic candour. The song strips away the band's usual urgency in favour of acoustic restraint, Williams reflecting on the search for direction when familiar anchors no longer hold. The lyrics trace a restless trajectory, Williams describing herself as one of those 'ghosts / Travelin' endlessly', caught between the impulse to flee mistakes and the need to find someone reliable. The song refuses easy resolution, circling back to its central image of aimless motion whilst acknowledging that pain might be the cost of getting what we want. The reassurance arrives obliquely, a voice insisting 'you are not useless' even as the ghosts continue their wandering. At twenty years old when the album appeared in 2009, Williams framed the track as an admission of uncertainty rather than a declaration of answers, the song's gentleness making space for doubt without surrendering to it entirely.
