Hayley Williams confronts someone wielding moral authority like a weapon. 'Playing God' finds her resisting control, pushing back against a person who mistakes superiority for righteousness and criticism for guidance. The song builds on a simple, devastating refrain: next time you point a finger, I'll point you to the mirror. It's a demand for self-examination dressed as a threat. Williams, Josh Farro, and Taylor York wrote the track with producer Rob Cavallo, constructing something that moves from restraint to defiance. The verses are precise about the mechanism of control, the cramming of ideas, the casual dismissal of change as mere aging, before the chorus erupts into something harder. By the final repetitions, the mirror becomes less an insult and more a condition of continued engagement. Believe me or don't, the song says, but look at yourself first.

Alex Lahey’s second album widened its pop-punk frame through changed structures, tunings and instrumental colour, while keeping everyday uncertainty at its centre.
