Zac Farro is taking 'Operator' back into the studio with a new live album
The Paramore drummer revisits his solo debut through in-studio performance films.
About This Track
The closing track of 'This Is Why' finds Paramore circling back to a pattern they've watched themselves repeat: the compulsion to rescue broken people, only to find themselves wounded in the process. Williams' voice cracks and swells as she traces the geometry of this trap, fingers bleeding from picking up pieces that were never hers to carry. The song moves with the sleazy shimmer that defines the album, all paranoia and mid-00s indie rock tension, but 'Thick Skull' lets that tension tighten into something almost unbearable. What makes it work is the refusal to resolve. The chorus hammers the same lesson over and over, each repetition a blow that never quite lands the way it should. There's no epiphany here, just the dull ache of learning nothing, of being hit over the head with the same truth until the skull itself becomes the problem. The music video completes the arc the album began, pushing the band's existential unravelling to its logical endpoint. A Dork five-star record deserves a closer that doesn't flinch, and this one doesn't.
