About This Track

'Tarantula' arrives as a collaboration between Pendulum, DJ Fresh, Spyda and Tenor Fly, recorded live at Brixton Academy. The track builds around a hypnotic, predatory hook that cycles through variations on the title, each repetition sharpening the threat. Spyda and Tenor Fly trade verses in a rapid-fire dancehall patois, their delivery all swagger and menace, the lyrics painting a portrait of street hardness and casual violence with the kind of graphic directness that defines grime and dancehall at their most uncompromising. The production sits somewhere between drum and bass urgency and reggae swing, the bass heavy and deliberate beneath the vocal interplay. There's a tension between the club energy of the beat and the lyrical content that keeps the track from settling into pure celebration; instead it occupies the uneasy space where dancefloor music and street narrative collide. The live recording captures that friction intact, the crowd energy feeding back into the performance without softening its edges.
