Rammstein have announced their new album, 'Zeit'
Following three years after their untitled album, their eighth full-length is set for release on 29th April, preceded by the title track.
About This Track
Released as the third single from Rammstein's untitled seventh studio album in May 2019, 'Ausländer' finds Till Lindemann adopting the persona of a globe-trotting seducer whose only fluency is in brief encounters. The lyrics thread German with snatches of Italian, French, Russian and English, the polyglot chorus a come-on assembled from phrasebook scraps. Lindemann frames himself as the perpetual foreigner, never staying longer than an hour or two before moving on to the next city and the next liaison. The song's title translates as 'foreigner', and the conceit is knowingly absurd: a character who has learned just enough language in each country to charm his way through a one-night stand, then vanishes before sunrise. The repeated refrain 'Ich bin Ausländer' anchors verses that catalogue this itinerant lifestyle with a mix of boastfulness and self-aware comedy, the final lines descending into broken pidgin that undercuts any pretence of sophistication. Rammstein deliver the premise with their usual industrial heft, the arrangement built for arenas even as the lyric winks at its own ridiculousness.
