About This Track

'Weit weg' tracks a figure pressed against a window, watching a woman undress in a lit room across the way. He is close enough to see everything, yet separated by glass and distance; the song holds this paradox in its title and refrain, collapsing proximity and remoteness into a single breath. Rammstein build the tension through restraint, the lyrics moving from voyeuristic observation to something more abstract: a man standing at a window ledge with "a sun in his hand", the image shifting between the literal and the hallucinatory. The refrain locks the contradiction tight. "So nah / So weit weg von dir" (so close / so far from you) repeats until the distinction between observer and observed, between desire and its object, begins to blur. By the final verses, the perspective fractures; the song moves from third person to first, from watching to being watched, from a specific scene to something dreamlike and untethered. The moonlight and stolen sunlight blur the boundaries further, until closeness and distance become indistinguishable.

Lyrics

Weit weg

Niemand kann das Bild beschreiben
Gegen seine Fensterscheibe
Hat er das Gesicht gepresst
Und hofft, dass sie das Licht anlässt
Ohne Kleid sah er sie nie
Die Herrin seiner Fantasie
Er nimmt die Gläser vom Gesicht
Singt zitternd eine Melodie

Der Raum wird sich mit Mondlicht füllen
Lässt sie fallen, alle Hüllen
Der Anblick ist ihm sehr gewogen
Spannt seine Fantasie zum Bogen
Der Atem stockt, das Herz schlägt wild
Malt seine Farben in ihr Bild
Steht er da am Fensterrand
Mit einer Sonne in der Hand

Ganz nah
So weit weg von hier
So nah
Weit, weit weg von dir

Ganz nah
So weit weg sind wir
So nah
Weit, weit weg von mir

Wieder ist es Mitternacht
Ich stehle uns das Licht der Sonne
Weil es immer dunkel ist
Wenn der Mond die Sterne küsst

Ganz nah

So nah

Ganz nah
So weit weg von dir
So nah
So weit weg sind wir
