Mud

'Mud' by Slothrust is a 2016 rock track from the album 'Everyone Else'. The lyrics tumble between appetite and defiance, with the speaker declaring, “I'll eat the mud”, then turning that impulse into a surreal assault on the sky and the dark. There is also a strand of domestic intimacy and instruction, as hair braiding and a father’s teaching sit alongside images of being under the ground. The overall mood is combative and unquiet, as if the speaker is trying to force the world to behave differently, even when it refuses.
