'Cowards' by Squid is a 2025 alternative track from the album 'Cowards'. The lyrics build a grim, surreal scene, with an always-raining castle and a sense of switching things on and off, as if life is managed by habit. Amid questions about dressing when there is no one to see, the song fixes on plastic litter, repeating the line about polythene bags littering the streets, then widening the net to a bleak, animalised view of humans and their leftovers. One phrase, “It’s always raining in the castle”, sets the tone for a world that won’t improve.
