Our Song (Commentary)

Becca: This is Big Machine Radio, and we are celebrating the milestones in Taylor Swift's career because it's always around the fall that she has released her albums, so the anniversary of her albums always comes up around this time. And right now, we are celebrating the 12-year anniversary of her self-titled debut album. And since then, it has sold over five and a half million copies and been ranked as one of the top 20 albums of all time, which is incredible when you think about the fact that Taylor Swift wrote or co-wrote all of this album before she even graduated high school. It kinda makes me feel like I didn't do as much as I should've when I was in school. But, you know, the thing that I love about Taylor Swift and her music is that some of it is very deep, some of it just makes you feel good, but all of her songs in one way or another seem to touch people and have an impact on them. And, you know, the interesting thing about Our Song, it's a song that Taylor wrote entirely by herself, and it was her very first number one song. And even when she went in the studio, Taylor knew exactly what she wanted out of Our Song

Taylor Swift: The song, Our Song, I was really adamant that I wanted banjo in it because when I wrote the song, I had a certain... You know, sometimes when I write songs, I'll have the exact production in my head and I'll know exactly what I want it to sound like, and one of my favorite instruments is banjo, because I just think it sounds really cool, really raw. So, I decided to put banjo in that song, and my producer, Nathan Chapman, has always just really, really worked with me so well, so I was excited about that
