
Victor Kwesi Mensah, known professionally as Vic Mensa, is an American rapper born on June 6, 1993, in Chicago. He was a member of the hip-hop groups Kids These Days and Savemoney before releasing his debut solo mixtape, Innanetape, in 2013. Mensa has been signed to Virgin EMI Records, Def Jam Recordings, Capitol Records, and Roc Nation. His 2014 debut single, "Down on My Luck," incorporated hip house elements, and his 2015 single, "U Mad," featuring Kanye West, adopted a drill sound; the former reached the top 40 of the UK singles chart, and the latter received gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America. His debut studio album, The Autobiography, was released in 2017 and received critical praise, while his second album, Victor, was released in 2023 and did not chart. Mensa has collaborated with artists including Kanye West, Jay-Z, Pharrell Williams, Pusha T, Wyclef Jean, and Skrillex. He has been involved in political activism and charitable efforts in Chicago, particularly addressing gun violence.
