
Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, born October 25, 1984, is an American singer, songwriter, and television personality known professionally as Katy Perry. She released a gospel album titled Katy Hudson in 2001 under Red Hill Records, which was unsuccessful. After moving to Los Angeles at age 17, she signed with Capitol Records and gained fame with her 2008 album One of the Boys, which featured the single "I Kissed a Girl" that topped the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. Her 2010 album Teenage Dream incorporated disco influences and produced five U.S. number-one singles: "California Gurls," "Teenage Dream," "Firework," "E.T.," and "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)." The album's reissue, The Complete Confection (2012), included the U.S. number-one single "Part of Me." Her 2013 album Prism produced two U.S. number-one singles, "Roar" and "Dark Horse." Perry's subsequent albums, Witness (2017), Smile (2020), and 143 (2024), received mixed critical and commercial responses. She has sold over 151 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time.
