Jay Som has released new track 'What You Need' from her forthcoming album 'Belong'
European and U.S. tour dates announced, with first-ever guest vocalists featured.
Jay Som is teasing her album 'Belong', out next month via Lucky Number, with new song, 'What You Need'.
The project of Los Angeles-based multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer Melina Duterte, 'Belong' marks Jay Som’s first full-length in over six years and features collaborations with Hayley Williams of Paramore, Jimmy Eat World’s Jim Adkins on 'Float', and Lexi Vega of Mini Trees on 'Cards On The Table'.
While 'What You Need' does not include a guest feature, it underlines the record’s collaborative approach, co-built with Joao Gonzalez (Soft Glas) after a Peter Bjorn and John track prompted him to reach out.
Duterte says, “Joao created and sent me the basic skeleton for 'What You Need' a couple hours before the fires in LA started,” adding, “I remember feeling immediately drawn to it, but the uncertainty and danger we were about to face crept up, pulling our focus elsewhere. We eventually revisited the demo a month later, after witnessing how the people of LA came together in its darkest moments -- it felt necessary and only right to create this song with friends.”
