'Objects' by Big Thief is an alternative track from the album 'Capacity' (2017). The lyrics move through images of upheaval, with volcanoes and melting suggesting a crisis of the familiar, then a push towards exposure, leaving the known behind, and setting yourself alight from within. The repeated idea of “turn your own light on” frames the song’s emotional pivot, from being overwhelmed to choosing illumination, with the body of the lyric repeatedly returning to guarding, opening out, and stepping outside your skin.
