BROCKHAMPTON have released ‘The Family’, their final album as a collective, as well a surprise parting gift, ‘TM’
Following its founding in 2010, the Texas group has now disbanded after 12 years together.
About This Track
The fifth single from SATURATION, 'BOYS' is BROCKHAMPTON's assertion of themselves as an unconventional boyband. Against the grain of the genre's usual template, the collective remind listeners that they are indeed a boyband, despite being gay, Black, and rapping, and the track becomes a statement of defiance wrapped in swagger and self-regard. The song moves through a series of boasts and confessions, its members cycling through verses that veer between bravado and vulnerability. One voice speaks of avoiding probation and selling drugs; another admits to suicidal ideation before pivoting to the assertion that they will shake the world. The production, handled entirely in-house by the group living together in South Los Angeles, sits beneath these claims with a kind of studied cool, letting the contradictions breathe rather than resolving them.
