BROCKHAMPTON have released ‘The Family’, their final album as a collective, as well a surprise parting gift, ‘TM’
Following its founding in 2010, the Texas group has now disbanded after 12 years together.
About This Track
The second track from BROCKHAMPTON's 2017 album 'Saturation II', 'QUEER' layers rapid-fire verses over a hook that strips away the bravado. The group's mixed-race, mixed-orientation lineup channels insecurity and defiance in equal measure, the production moving between frenetic energy and moments of unexpected calm. Kevin Abstract opens with self-interrogation about body image and exhaustion before the track pivots to a pointed rejection of Dolce & Gabbana over accusations of racism. The refrain 'don't go runnin' your mouth' becomes a warning and a mantra, whilst a middle eight about distance and proximity ('Waco is far away') offers brief tenderness. Later verses pile on declarations of Black excellence and ambition, the tone swinging from vulnerability to swagger without settling on either. The track earned attention as a highlight of the album, praised for its versatility and the way the hook dissolves the intensity of the verses. It captures the collective's willingness to hold contradictions in the same breath.
