About This Track
'William' closes Lithopédion as a confessional fragment, Damso (whose real name is William) recording himself at three in the morning on 14 December, cognac and cigarettes at hand, processing the weight of fatherhood, infidelity and the distance between who he was and who he has become. The song is brief and unadorned, a single verse that moves from the surface noise of social media to the deeper fracture of a relationship he knows cannot hold. The lyric pivots between material ascent (from nothing to a Porsche) and emotional exhaustion, between the fear of sobriety and the fear of being a father. He describes praying at night, suffering in anticipation of a signal that never comes, and the paradox of how difficulty becomes easier to bear until it becomes harder to speak about at all. The song ends with a question mark rather than resolution: whether this is his final album, he suggests, only time will tell.
