About This Track

'Sextape' was released as the third single from Deftones' sixth studio album, 'Diamond Eyes', in October 2010. A shoegaze departure from the band's heavier alternative-metal foundation, the track became one of the most popular songs on the record.

Chino Moreno's lyrics drift between oceanic imagery and nocturnal escape, the repeated plea 'take me one more time' suspended over waves that collide and dissolve. The song moves through water and city hours with a weightless insistence, the narrator out of their head, riding the sound itself. Where much of Deftones' catalogue leans into tension and rupture, 'Sextape' holds a single sustained mood, hypnotic and unbroken.

The music video, directed by Robert Schober, arrived in September 2010, a month before the single's formal release. The track marked a quieter, more textural edge to 'Diamond Eyes', an album that returned the band to critical and commercial favour after a turbulent period.
