About This Track

'Solo' appeared as the sixteenth track on 'HNDRXX', released on 24th February 2017, seven days after Future had issued another album titled 'FUTURE'. The song runs four minutes and twenty-five seconds, built around a refrain of reassurance, 'I don't wanna let you down', that Future repeats over a production stripped back enough to foreground his voice. The lyrics catalogue luxury and routine in equal measure: Gucci purchases, Rollie watches on ice, first-class flights, twenty-ounce steaks that cannot fit the plate. Future frames these details as gestures of provision, promises made to someone who now 'got it made right now', who has maids and need not pump gas. The chorus pivots to solitude, the title assertion arriving late: 'I been solo now, I've been going solo now.' The track handles a break-up by listing what was offered and acknowledging what remains, the 4 AM timestamp suggesting the hour when both claims feel sharpest.
