About This Track
Lucy Dacus builds 'Lost Time' around a single, urgent confession: all the days she knew she was in love but said nothing are wasted. The song stretches across nearly five minutes, moving from spring imagery and metaphors of distance (800 miles, stolen moments in hallways) toward domestic intimacy. Formal clothes on the floor, singing in the shower, a broken gold chain on the dresser. The specificity accumulates until the refrain becomes not just regret but a kind of reckoning, each unsaid day reframed as a crime, a crying shame. What begins as a love song about delay hardens into something more complicated. Dacus doesn't apologise for her hesitation; she's "not sorry, not certain, not perfect, not good". Instead, she pivots toward action and presence, the promise to notice everything, to fold clothes whilst someone gets ready for work, to make the most of whatever time remains. The song's emotional weight rests on that tension between lost time and the time still available to spend.
