About This Track

Mk.gee reflects on a summer romance that has lingered in memory long after it ended. The song moves between vivid recollection and present-day acceptance, tracing the emotional arc from dependence to hard-won independence. Verses sketch the relationship in fragments, touch, sunlight, the accusation of taking rather than giving, whilst the chorus anchors itself in a rooftop moment, a year or more in the past, that marks the boundary between then and now. The tension between the pre-chorus declarations of self-sufficiency and the outro's admission of mutual thought creates the song's emotional core. Mk.gee doesn't pretend the other person has vanished from his mind; he simply insists he no longer needs them to be whole.
