Waterparks have shared details of their upcoming sixth studio album. Titled
'JINX', the record arrives on 24th July through BMG/Rise Records and boasts guest appearances from
Mark Hoppus of
blink-182, Danny Elfman, Eric Nally of
Foxy Shazam and
Dillon Francis.
Alongside the album announcement, the band have released
'PROWLER' as the latest single. It joins previously released tracks '
ANY MINUTE NOW', '
IF LYRICS WERE CONFIDENTIAL', and '
RED GUITAR' on the thirteen-track record.
Speaking about the track, vocalist
Awsten Knight opens up about a turbulent period that shaped its creation. "I wrote 'PROWLER' at a time I felt the most isolated last year," he says. "I really hate change, and for the first time since anyone knew who Waterparks was, we separated from (almost) all of our old team and our record label. This was one of the biggest changes we could've experienced, and on top of that, when one is as busy as I am, your friends are naturally 99% work-related."
Knight elaborates on how the upheaval affected him personally. "It felt like losing almost everyone I knew, even tangential friends, while also feeling like career-wise the floor was falling out from under me," he continues. "I don't mean to sound dramatic, but sometimes it is that deep. This song is a reflection of the extremely concentrated sadness I felt over those months while trying to rebuild my world."
