Album Review
Just Mustard - Heart Under
Masters of atmosphere, 'Heart Under' sees Just Mustard refine their craft.
Irish five-piece Just Mustard return with their stunning second album, 'Heart Under'. Masters of atmosphere, it sees the band refine their craft, both perfecting their woolly ambience and skilfully cutting through it with striking precision and flair.
'Heart Under' brings a certain heaviness with a sense of yearning. Katie Ball's vocals stand out across the album, with her ethereal crooning offering many special moments.
Having self-produced the album, Just Mustard have pushed themselves and elevated their sound. Instrumentally, there's an impressive exploration of sound - from screeching guitars to battering drums - with often unconventional techniques making their mark throughout with slick finesse and an almost other-worldly, cinematic sound.
'Heart Under' offers a sombre intensity. With gentle vocals and often minimal accompaniment, it's easy to get lost in the shoegazy aura, but the unconventional guitar croons soon bring you right back to the moment.
