About This Track
Drake captures the vertigo of sudden attraction in 'Something', a track built on the tension between hope and doubt. The song opens with the speaker falling fast, rules abandoned, meeting someone who matches every imagined version of them. Yet doubt creeps in almost immediately. He questions whether this is real, whether he should have known better, whether the other person needs time. The chorus circles obsessively around a single phrase: "this could be something". It's a mantra of possibility that collapses into its opposite. Each repetition of the hook is undercut by the admission that it might be nothing at all. The song doesn't resolve the contradiction. Instead, the outro settles on acceptance: "I guess it's what we make it", a shrug that acknowledges how much of any relationship depends not on certainty but on the choice to believe in it.
