About This Track

Grimes wrote and produced 'Delete Forever' on the night of Lil Peep's death, a response to the opioid epidemic that had claimed six of her own friends to heroin overdoses. The song channels the numbness that followed those losses, moving between confession and defiance. She adopts the voice of someone caught between self-awareness and self-destruction, cycling through the same emotional trap: always down when not up, filling time with what she calls permanent blue, unable to see above it yet somehow complicit in her own descent. The guitar-based track moves between folk and dance, its production sparse enough to let the lyrics land. Grimes repeats the refrain "I see everything" as both boast and curse, a claim of total perception that offers no relief. The song does not sentimentalise grief or addiction; instead it documents the particular exhaustion of watching others fall and feeling powerless to stop it, then turning that powerlessness inward. What emerges is not a suicide note but a portrait of someone aware of the edge and unable to step back from it, the title itself an act of dark humour about erasure and escape.
