About This Track
Propaganda arrives as a study in manipulation dressed up as seduction. Muse frames the song around a figure who deals in false promises and half-truths, wrapping the narrator in a web of compelling lies. The track builds its argument through repeated refrains, the word "propaganda" hammered home until it becomes the emotional core, whilst the narrator catalogs the ways he's been compromised: trapped, wrapped around a finger, offered things he cannot refuse. The language shifts between the intimate and the corrosive. Early verses use terms of endearment alongside darker imagery, the narrator describing himself as an ocean choked by an oil slick, his soul consumed. What emerges is a portrait of persuasion as a kind of slow poisoning, where charm and deception become indistinguishable. The chorus locks into a simple, devastating logic: you make offers I can't refuse, you tell pretty lies, you're killing me with your propaganda. By the final repetitions, the song has worn grooves into the listener's mind, the mechanism of manipulation made audible.
"Propaganda" is a track by Muse, released 9th November 2018. The track is 3:01 long. Full lyrics are available below.
