AFAS Live is Amsterdam's premier purpose-built concert hall, standing in the Zuidoost district beside the Johan Cruyff Arena. It opened in 2001 as the Heineken Music Hall, carried the brewer's name until 2017, and then became AFAS Live. The main room, the Black Box, holds around 6,000 and was designed from the ground up for live music; a smaller Beat Box space handles after-parties. Between them they draw something in the region of 600,000 visitors a year. The roll-call is exactly what you would expect of a room at that scale and that level of acoustic care. Adele, The Weeknd, Kendrick Lamar, Coldplay, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Arctic Monkeys and Billie Eilish have all played here, and an ailing Charles Aznavour performed at 93 in March 2018, in one of his final concerts. It is the Dutch capital's natural home for the arena-adjacent show, the one a step below the stadium, and it fills that brief without fuss.
