samxemma - Us Forever EP
The influence of chaotic, high-energy pop sits right at the centre of their DNA.
samxemma specialise in the fine art of dancing through emotional turmoil, preferably at extremely high BPM. On their 'Us Forever' EP, the Manchester duo package oversharing and sharp humour into five tracks of glittery club-pop that arrive with the rush of a late-night dancefloor confession.
The influence of chaotic, high-energy pop sits right at the centre of their DNA. Emma's hyper-honest lyricism collides with Sam's maximalist electronic production, creating a world where big emotions arrive wrapped in bright, punchy beats. Synths sparkle, drums thump, and hooks snap neatly into place like a very enthusiastic piece of pop engineering.
The writing is the real star. samxemma deliver lines that land with perfect comic timing while still carrying a small existential sting. On 'Me forever :(', Emma sighs, "You've got it all wrong, I like you, I just hate myself." Moments later, she pokes at pop itself with "I could be a pop girl, but that means that I'd be mainstream", turning industry snobbery into another punchline.
'YOU KNOW I LOVE YOU' barrels in as a full-throttle pop sugar rush, blending hyperpop melodies with drum & bass propulsion. Emma delivers the track as an unapologetic love letter you can't stop blurting out. Later, 'SEE SEE WHERE WE GO' explores the strange optimism of sticking around in situations that come with very obvious warning signs attached. The restless electronics mirror the emotional loop of second-guessing, the production offering up bursts of club-ready energy.
Across its five tracks, 'Us Forever' thrives on contradiction: self-awareness tangled up with big pop ambition. samxemma turn messy thoughts into dancefloor material (a surprisingly effective strategy, it turns out), crafting a short, bright EP packed with humour, honesty and an irresistible urge to move.
