Dead Pony move fast on ‘Eat My Dust!’. Fresh off a debut that earned a Scottish Album of the Year nomination, the Glasgow band come back heavier and clearly enjoying the added bite.
‘What If?’ acts as a brief entry point before the title-track bursts forward. ‘Eat My Dust!’ thrives on metalcore crunch, all hammering drums and jagged guitars, with Anna Shields firing off “let me show you how we run this town” like a warning shot. Confidence isn’t in short supply.
There’s real backstory running through the EP, too. ‘Freak Like Me’, drawn from their early gigs in sweaty Glasgow spots like The Priory, stands tallest. It celebrates outsiders finding each other, wrapped in a chorus built for shouting back. The 90s and early-00s influences are everywhere, and it feels energised and excited.
‘BOOM!’ keeps that momentum going, bright and addictive with a mischievous streak. ‘Fury’ arrives with a strong opening stretch, shifting pace and showing more range, while ‘Lost Inside of Me’ closes things out with a chorus that sticks around.
Across six tracks, Dead Pony dig further into heavier ground without losing their grip on hooks. It’s bold and a clear step forward from a band pushing themselves harder and sounding better for it.
